MACRA TO HOST SPACE CONFERENCE IN OCTOBER

By Stanley Chiputu  The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has announced that it will host the Malawi Space Conference 2023, a two-day event that will bring together experts,and stakeholders from the space industry. The conference, which will take place from 18th to 20th October 2023 at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, aims to explore the opportunities and challenges for sustainable development in the space sector. According to statement released by The Director General of MACRA, Dr. Daud Suleman stated that the conference is part of MACRA's vision to promote and regulate the development of communications services in Malawi, including those related to space. MACRA is therefore, inviting all interested stakeholders to register for the conference through the official website or contact MACRA.

MINISTRY OF TOURISM TO ADDRESS HUMAN-ANIMAL CONFLICT

By Stanley Chiputu                                              The ministry of tourism, headed by honorable Vera Kamtukule, has announced a series of measures put in place to curb the human-animal conflict that has been affecting the livelihood of people and wildlife in Malawi. According to Vera Kamtukule's official Facebook page, said that the fence around the Kasungu National park is under construction and 67.5 kilometers of the 130 kilometers has been completed. In additional to that, ministry also engaged the leaders to sensitize their members about the dangers of encroachments in the park as well as vandalism that put their lives at risk. Minister visited Kasungu on Wednesday, where she has expressed her condolences to the families who lost their relatives due to animal attack. MSCE EXAMINATION PASS RATE DROPS BY 4% IN 2023

 By Stanley Chiputu  The Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) has released the results of the 2023 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examination, which shows a slight decrease in the pass rate compared to the previous year. According to the Executive Director of MANEB, Professor Dorothy Nampota, who addressed the press on Wednesday, out of the 160,585 candidates who registered for the examination, only 154,132 sat for it, representing a 95.98% attendance rate. Out of the 154,132 candidates who sat for the examination, 83,846 passed, representing a 54.40% pass rate. This is a drop from the 2022 MSCE examination results, which had a pass rate of 58.44%. Out of the 147,977 candidates who sat for the 2022 examination, 86,477 passed. This represents a 4.04 decrease.

MSCE RESULTS: DEDZA TOPS THE LIST OF BEST PERFORMING DISTRICTS

  The Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) has released the results of the 2023 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations. Out of the 154,132 candidates who sat for the exams, 83,846 have passed, representing a 54.40 percent pass rate. The statement indicates the list of the top 10 districts in terms of performance in the MSCE exams. The list is based on the percentage of candidates who passed in each district. The top 10 districts are: Dedza Zomba urban Chitipa Karonga Dowa  Mzuzu city  Phalombe Nkhotakota Mulanje Likoma Poor performance Bottom 10 districts are as follows in descending order: Machinga Nsanje Thyolo Lilongwe City Zomba rural Blantyre Chikwawa Lilongwe rural east Rumphi Balaka This is a drop from the 2022 MSCE examination results, which had a pass rate of 58.44%. MULTI-CHOICE TO RESUME DSTV SERVICES IN MALAWI

This comes after a meeting between Multichoice Malawi and the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) on Monday, September 04, 2023. According to a statement posted on MACRA’s official Facebook page, the meeting was aimed at resolving the issues that led to the withdrawal of DSTV services from Malawi last week. Multi-choice had cited a hostile business environment as the reason for its decision, which affected thousands of subscribers in the country. The statement said that both parties agreed on a number of measures to ensure the smooth operation of DSTV services in Malawi, including the payment of outstanding fees and taxes, the compliance with local content regulations, and the protection of consumers’ rights and interests. MALAWI'S TV STAR SHINES AT SHINNING STAR AFRICAN AWARDS

By Stanley Chiputu Priscilla Kayira, a renowned Malawian TV presenter and social media influencer, has been named the winner of the Africa’s Best Media Personality of the Year Award at the 2023 Shining Star Africa Awards. Last year, she won the Social Media Influencer of the Year Award at the Zikomo Awards in Zambia.  She has also won the UMP Media Personality of the Year Award three times in Malawi.
