The ministry of tourism, headed by honorable Vera Kamtukule, has announced a series of measures put in place to curb the human-animal conflict that has been affecting the livelihood of people and wildlife in Malawi.

According to Vera Kamtukule's official Facebook page, said that the fence around the Kasungu National park is under construction and 67.5 kilometers of the 130 kilometers has been completed.

In additional to that, ministry also engaged the leaders to sensitize their members about the dangers of encroachments in the park as well as vandalism that put their lives at risk.

Minister visited Kasungu on Wednesday, where she has expressed her condolences to the families who lost their relatives due to animal attack.

According to the minister, human-animal conflict is a major challenge for conservation and development in Malawi, especially in and around National Parks, where elephants and other animals often raid crops, damage property, and cause injuries and deaths to humans and livestock. The ministry said that the lack of a fence around the park has been one of the main causes of the conflict, as it allows animals to roam freely into the surrounding villages and farms.
