MULTI-CHOICE TO RESUME DSTV SERVICES IN MALAWI

By Stanley Chiputu

Multi-choice Holdings Africa, the leading provider of pay-TV services in Africa, has announced that it will resume offering DSTV services in Malawi by this Friday, September 08, 2023. This comes after a meeting between Multichoice Malawi and the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) on Monday, September 04, 2023.

According to a statement posted on MACRA’s official Facebook page, the meeting was aimed at resolving the issues that led to the withdrawal of DSTV services from Malawi last week. Multi-choice had cited a hostile business environment as the reason for its decision, which affected thousands of subscribers in the country.

The statement said that both parties agreed on a number of measures to ensure the smooth operation of DSTV services in Malawi, including the payment of outstanding fees and taxes, the compliance with local content regulations, and the protection of consumers’ rights and interests.

The statement also said that MACRA and Multichoice Malawi will continue to engage in dialogue and cooperation to promote the development of the broadcasting sector in Malawi. It thanked the public for their patience and understanding during the period of service interruption.

Multi-choice Holdings Africa is a subsidiary of Naspers, a South African media and internet company. It operates DSTV, a satellite television service that offers a range of channels and packages to customers across Africa. DSTV is one of the most popular sources of entertainment and information in Malawi, especially for sports lovers.

  1. They can resume their services, but they need to think about the prices, they should not be raising prices anyhow, the price should be affordable atleast rather than what they do
